Massimo Marchiori & Antonella Gerona
Bonastre, Penedes, Spanje
Massimo and Antonella make beautiful wines in Bonastre, Penedes in Spain. The Italian architect couple, who are actually from Northern Italy, left their work and home country to make natural wine in the area around Barcelona. They moved to the small village of Bonastre, bought an old building and turned it into a cellar made from recycled materials.
Massimo looked for old abandoned vineyards and gave them new life. As a result, they mainly use local grape varieties such as Sumoll, Garrut and Xarel.lo. They also regularly use grapes that are disqualified by the DO for lack of color or are never accepted, such as Sumoll and Cartoixa Vermell. They don't use anything like herbicides or pesticides in the vineyard, only organically grown grapes. They also work as naturally as possible in the cellar, the wines are 100% pure. No sulfites added, no filtering, no intervention.
Wild wines from cult producers, not to be missed.
