Barbacan - Jazpemi
Description
Jazpemi is a Valtellina Superiore, the first Barbacan Cru wine from the Valgella region. Made mainly from Chiavennasca, but it also includes a few other grape varieties such as Rossola, Chiavennaschino, and Pignola. However, Nebbiolo dominates. Like all the wines from Barbacan, this one is also super elegant. Ripe fruit with some spices, pepper, and the tannins are anything but coarse.
Artisanal wines from the mountains in Northern Italy, high up in the Alps, you find the 6 hectares of vineyards of Barbacan in San Giacomo di Teglio, Valtellina. Terraces, wintery slopes full of snow in winter. It's almost an incredible job what they do here. And the wines? Extraordinary. They are all Nebbiolo, which is called Chiavennasca in this region.
